aloha and mahalo, part 2.

Is it August already..why yes it is!

I'm taking a break from working my arse off in grad school to post the second chapter in the honeymoon trilogy!

DAY 4: We took off early to discover the magic of Hanauma Bay. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and low tide. So, although we saw fish, they weren't flooding around us. Also, they don't allow people to feed the fish anymore, but I'm ok with that because with my luck I'd have attracted something I did not want to.

We suckered some people into taking our picture in full on snorkel gear.

And then we were off to do what we love best: drink coffee!!! We yelped our way to Glazer's Coffee in Honolulu.

Then we found out on our ride home that Michael Jackson died.
I was shocked

Micah was frightened.

After our initial shock & fear, we played a rousing game of croquet.

It's hard to say who won, because I don't remember keeping score. But I think it was this person.

DAY 5: Another day, another snorkeling adventure. We went up to Shark's Cove on the North Shore. We were advised, "If you see a shark smaller than you, you're ok; if you see a shark larger than you, get out of the water!"

We saw TONS of fish. The water was clear & the fish were out.

When lunch time rolled around, we again were advised that we really only had one option...Giovanni's

Giovanni's cooks up shrimp, shrimp that is farmed in nearby pools. Shrimp that is amazing!

You see all that garlic? I was in heaven!

After lunch we hit up turtle cove (a Sheraton hotel/beach), where I got my 546th pina colada.

We capped the night with stouffer's frozen pasta dinners, bread, wine, and sleepless in seattle.

And well these palm trees were just some of the beautiful landscape near the house.

DAY 6:

Why do you ask I am sitting in a hospital room?

Well, let me tell you a little story about ear wax. Ear wax likes to build up and apparently mine likes to prevent me from hearing. After two full days of snorkeling, honeymoon day six rolls around and I can't hear out of my left ear. We think, "perhaps that's something we should take care of." So, we drove on down to the kaiser clinic. Thankfully we got in without too much of a wait and they used that syringe type thing to blast my ear with warm water and break out the wax. I refused to let Micah take a picture of the disgusting, cockroach size piece that came out (sorry if that's too graphic for anyone).

Moving along...

After the morning trauma, we relaxed at kalapawi market with some coffee and a blueberry muffin. This little guy wanted to join. Notice his missing foot?

How could we say no?

Well, we did once all his little friends decided to join him.

In the afternoon, we went into Honolulu (can keep us city folk away). We saw Star Trek, it happen to be just loud enough to hear over the screaming 2 yr old in the theater. Then we went to Ala Mona Beach to bask in the setting sun and of course take some pictures.

Afterwards we drove all around honolulu trying to get on the highway. Let's just say signs aren't marked well. No, let's say there aren't signs. Eventually, we ended up at our destination-Le Bistro, a cute french restaurant in a strip mall. We ate tasty food, we drank wine, we went back home.

In other news the Sara(h)s are coming TODAY!! And, I'm done with summer classes a week from today!!
Yeah!
Coming soon: part 3.

aloha and mahalo, part 1.

Are you ready?

I've decided to break the honeymoon down into 3 parts...triologies are always great!

Alrighty, well grab yourself a snack and a glass of wine (or beverage of choice) and enjoy!

first we flew from san francisco to hawaii!
P1010638
we were very excited to be just the "two of us" (on a plane with 300 of our closest friends) after all the wedding festivities
P1010631

DAY 1: first walk on the beach
P1010665
P1010670

the first night we mustered up some energy and made it to the grocery store for some essentials. home cooked tacos! it was so great to have a kitchen to be able to make our own food.
P1010679

DAY 2: my cousin alison suggested we go up to Pali lookout, as witnessed in this picture neither of us were expecting the wind to be such a problem
P1010688

it was very impressive though
P1010692

i didn't see any bees, but they must be pretty darn scary given their strength to battle some typhoon style winds
P1010696

after the pali lookout we drove into honolulu to get some hawaiian shave ice (Tropical Freeze--another Alison recommendation)
P1010713
P1010710
i love shave ice
P1010711

DAY 3: have i talked about this little gem of a breakfast? oh well, it's worth mentioning again (and again, and again). we went to the local "Boots and Kimo's" and indulged in heaven on earth. literally, it was the BEST breakfast EVER!
P1010728
every last bite was amazing. i was stuffed, but made myself eat the last bit because it was that good

after breakfast we headed down to pearl harbor to visit the uss arizona memorial
P1010743
P1010741
P1010737

the navy runs the boat rides out to the memorial
P1010748
P1010749
P1010762
P1010757
P1010764
P1010770
i don't usually consider myself a "patriotic person" (whatever that means), but the experience struck a somber tone. it was disturbing standing atop the sunken graveyard. but i was hit most by the simplicity of the memorial. it wasn't overdone, there was no "god bless america" soundtrack playing in the background to elicit emotions of pride. it allowed me to observe the memorial in a way that was meaningful to myself.

after the memorial, we hit up the beach again
P1010784
P1010779

there you go, part 1. stay tuned for parts 2 & 3!!

the giants vs. the rockies.

Saturday night, Emily, Chris, Micah, and myself braved the thunderous rain to Coor's Field to observe the colorado rockies and the san francisco giants battle it out in a rousing game of baseball.

look at those looming clouds!

Chris & Emily

Micah eating his burrito as normal as possible

he then proceeded to try to make me eat it

mass crowd exile during t-storms

oh well, we're all smiles, seeing as we were in the nose bleed section that provided cover

but then it really started to pour & it got cold

so i bundled up in my rain jacket

It was a long game, rot with bases stolen, foul balls, plays to the triple, and the occasional homerun. Oh, who am I kidding, I barely watched the game and instead stuffed my mouth with way too many mike and ike Hot Tamales.

I knew the outcome though:
"the rockies won" face

"the giants lost" face
